Variations:

  • Add in Nuts– You can easily add in any nuts. Our favorite has been peanuts but almonds would be great as well. For that extra sweet and salty combination use salted nuts.
  • Drizzle with chocolate –We just drizzled melted chocolate over the popcorn and it was absolutely delicious! You could even experiment with all sorts of different chocolate. White chocolate would be amazing and you could even mix the two. All of the different swirls of chocolate would look so pretty as well.
  • Add chocolate chips –Try peanut butter or butterscotch! I think it would be delicious to use several different types of chocolate morsels.
  • Microwave Popcorn – We used microwave popcorn, but you can use any type of pop popcorn.

Why does my popcorn get soggy when I add butter? ›

The reason it goes soggy is because butter contains 15% water. Yes, water is what is making your popcorn soggy!

How do you melt peanut butter to drizzle? ›

When using peanut butter only, the key is heat. Peanut butter is naturally high in fat, but that fat is nearly solid at room temperature. In order to soften it up, you need some heat. In my case, I heated two tablespoons in a heat-proof bowl and then stirred like crazy.

How do you add butter to popcorn without it getting soggy? ›

Movie theaters use butter-flavored oil, which has a lower water content than butter so it makes popcorn less soggy. Real clarified butter has the same effect. To make it, melt 2 sticks butter in a glass measuring cup in the microwave. Let sit for a few minutes; the butter will separate into 3 layers.

Can you just add melted butter to popcorn? ›

Melted butter turns popcorn soggy because of its high water content. Make sure to clarify your butter before pouring it on. It sounds complicated, but clarifying butter is actually a breeze in the microwave, and it removes enough of the water to leave you with buttery, perfectly crunchy popcorn.

What can I add to popcorn for flavor? ›

The savory one includes smoked paprika, onion powder, a little cumin, a pinch of cayenne, and fine salt. Both are open to variation, depending on my mood and what's in the pantry. Another great flavor to add to popcorn is grated parmesan, but only if you've got the good stuff.

What makes popcorn taste better? ›

Here are some ideas:Add your favorite seasonings, such as salt, garlic powder, chili powder, or cumin. Sprinkle on some nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor. Melt some butter or coconut oil and drizzle it over the popcorn. Mix in some dried herbs, like rosemary or thyme.

What should I add to my popcorn to make it better? ›

For savory popcorn: Olive oil, kosher salt, and nutritional yeast. Nutritional yeast is the perfect seasoning if you want cheesy flavor but also want vegan popcorn seasoning. For sweet popcorn: Olive oil, cinnamon, and a dash of brown sugar. This will satisfy your sweet cravings without making your teeth hurt!

Can you spray Pam butter on popcorn? ›

Great for popcorn! Spray on air-popped popcorn instead of melted butter. Also on fry-pans for a taste of butter when frying.

How do you add butter to bagged popcorn? ›

The first is try using butter on the bottom of the pot as the cooking oil for the popcorn. The second is melt several tablespoons of butter . Then fill a bag of popcorn only half way . drizzle the melted butter on the top half of sides of the bag fold over then shake the bag vigorously to coat the popcorn lightly.

How do you make homemade popcorn fluffier? ›

A good lid is important when making popcorn, but there's a bit of a strategy here. For the best results, and lowest number of un-popped kernels leave the lid open just a hairline amount. It allows any steam or moisture to get out as well, resulting in fluffy kernels.

Why do you put water on top of peanut butter? ›

Natural peanut butter does not contain hydrogenated oils and other stabilizers like the other peanut butters on the market. So the oil and the peanuts will separate and also can make it thinner. This might be the 'watery' part that you mentioned. This does not mean the peanut butter is bad or can not be consumed.

How do you add butter to cooked popcorn? ›

My method is to melt the butter then pour it into a large empty bowl and roll the bowl around to spread over the surface. Then dump the hot popped popcorn in, and use a spoon to stir it and mix it up well. Each popcorn will pick up just a bit of butter on each one, and none will be soggy.

Does butter affect popcorn popping? ›

The data I found shows that the buttered popcorn bags produced the higher percentage of popped kernals. I think that the oil from the butter produced heat, so more kernals popped with it. If I could continue this experiment, I would investigate how the butter affects how the popcorn pops.

Do you add sugar before or after popping popcorn? ›

Once most of the kernels have popped, add granulated white sugar to the pan and shake well to mix it. Turn off the stove, and dump the popcorn into a bowl after it's been coated evenly with sugar. Try using brown sugar instead of white sugar for a nuttier taste.
