One look through your grocery store’s freezer section and you already know: most ice creams are not keto-friendly. There are a few low-carb ice cream brands out there, but they can be expensive and hard to find.

In fact, it’s much cheaper (and way more fun!) to make your own keto-friendly ice cream and home. And this way, you know exactly what’s in it. No strange stabilizers here!

Don’t worry, making homemade keto ice cream is much easier than you think! And in this post, I’ve collected the best recipes to help you get started.

The Best Keto-Friendly Ice Cream Recipes

Here are my favorite low-carb ice cream recipes that are easy to make at home. Some of these recipes use an ice cream maker. But don’t worry if you don’t have an ice cream maker. Some of the recipes are no-churn ice cream — which means you can freeze them in a simple loaf pan.

How to Make Low Carb Ice Cream at Home

You may not be able to eat regular ice cream on a ketogenic diet, but you can eat keto ice cream! And fortunately, making homemade low-carb ice cream recipe is super simple. Most recipes start with a combination of heavy cream, coconut milk, keto-friendly sweetener, and flavoring.

In some cases, you’ll whip the heavy cream to add lightness and “scoopability” to your ice cream. Some recipes use whipped eggs for a similar purpose.

Ingredients in Keto Ice Cream

Most ketogenic ice cream recipes have a similar set of ingredients. If you make keto recipes regularly, you probably already have these ingredients in your fridge.

Here are common ingredients in homemade low-carb ice cream:

If you love to make ketogenic ice cream, you might want to invest in some helpful kitchen items to make the process even easier.

If you already have a Kitchenaid Mixer, you can purchase an add-on Kitchenaid Ice Cream Maker attachment. You freeze the bowl beforehand and then use the mixer to churn the ice cream. This is what I use at home, and it works really well. It makes making homemade sugar-free ice cream so much easier and more consistent.

Alternatively, if you’d rather get a standalone ice cream maker, this Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker is a really great value and has a ton of positive reviews. It has a small footprint, so it will fit in smaller kitchens.

For no-churn ice cream, or even to store machine-churned ice cream, I really like these long, slim, freezer storage containers. They have tight-fitting lids, and they’re stackable. Plus, they’re designed to fit in your freezer door!
